Introduction
After open-heart surgery, most patients’ breastbone (sternum) heals normally. But in some cases, the bone does not fuse — this is called sternal nonunion. It can cause pain, clicking, or instability in the chest. Left untreated, it may affect breathing, daily activities, and overall quality of life.

Symptoms

Persistent chest pain or pressure

Treatment — Titanium Plate Fixation
Traditional wire closures may fail if the bone does not heal. In these cases, titanium plates and screws can rigidly stabilize the sternum, allowing it to heal properly. This approach is stronger, more stable, and supported by published studies.
